About Liam: The Story Behind the Stories
I’ve always liked writing. As far back as my school days, the highlight for me was when we were asked to write an essay. In the intervening 50 years, I’ve continued to write, though mainly business articles, presentations and conference papers. After a 40-year career in the aviation industry, I decided to write full-time, focusing on crime thrillers and historical fiction. I have now written five crime thrillers and a non-fiction book, two of which have been published. I have also written numerous articles on such diverse topics as travel, politics, history, sport, culture and economics. Many of these have been published on Medium, the independent writers platform. My debut novel, ‘No Margin for Error,’ was published in the U.K. by New Generation Publishing in 2012 and received their award for Best Fiction Novel of the Year. The book sold over 2,000 copies and was praised by major publications, including The Sunday Times, which called it “a page-turner that maintains its hectic pace all through,” and The Sunday Independent, which described it as “a cracking tale.” It also earned glowing reviews from local media and readers alike, some of whom have compared my writing to that of Larsson and Forsyth. Three of the thrillers feature Mike Lyons, an Irish-born ex-cop in his late forties with deep ties to international counterterrorism, having worked with both MI5 and U.S. Homeland Security. In his first adventure, Lyons foils an attempt on the life of the U.S. President. In 2024, I released ‘No Time for Goodbye,’ a stand-alone novel inspired by real events from the Bosnian War of the 1990s, including the Srebrenica massacre and one family’s fight for survival. I have started numerous other novels, some of which I may even finish 😀. For me, the writing is the enjoyable part. While I love once-off articles, my main concentration is on gripping, fast-paced thrillers and thought-provoking stories that I’d like to think blend sharp realism with fictional depth.

No Time for Goodbye
The war in Bosnia from 1992 to 1996 was among the most brutal conflicts ever seen in Europe. People could not believe that such heinous and sub-human acts thought to be consigned to history, could still happen in modern day Europe. But they did…. Drazen Itsakovic is a simple farmer; all he has ever wanted to do is to live off the land and provide for his family. But when the Bosnian Serbs come to Srebrenica, his entire world is turned upside down. He is torn from his wife and children and he witnesses genocide. He narrowly escapes death himself but when he returns, his village has become a mass grave. His wife Sonja and his daughter are subsequently separated from his son and they are imprisoned in one of the notorious ‘rape camps’. Sonja manages to escape by killing the camp commander but as a result she becomes the most wanted woman in Bosnia. She assumes her husband is dead and she has no idea if her son is alive. Meanwhile Drazen teams up with Bosniak refugees who try to reach safety by avoiding Serb patrols but he encounters murder at every turn and survives an incredible number of escapes in his single minded pursuit of his family. As a counterpoint, Sefer Milanovic is a Serbian Army Colonel from Belgrade, assigned to the Bosnian Serbs as an adviser. He becomes increasingly sickened by the savagery of the militias and decides he has to do something to stop it or the name of Serbia will be blackened for ever. The novel is meticulously researched and is based on real events and real people. It explores the interactions of the Serbs and the Bosniaks and the racial tensions which were submerged for years until they suddenly exploded during the early 1990’s.

No Margin For Error
In the 1980s London, a daring terrorist escape sets off a deadly game of cat-and-mouse. Decades later, that fugitive has become the world’s most feared hit-man, while his old pursuer has risen to lead the West’s elite anti-terror unit. When Al Qaeda commissions this professional killer to carry out an audacious strike against Western governments, the balance of power shifts dramatically. The best minds in law-enforcement on both sides of the Atlantic are powerless to stop him. Now, perhaps only his former adversary can anticipate the next move and bring him down. Fast-paced, global in scope and grounded in the tense realities of modern terrorism, No Margin for Error takes readers inside the minds of both hunter and hunted as they plunge into an escalating international chase—from London’s intelligence corridors to the hidden networks of extremist threat. With twists and turns that build to a dramatic, high-stakes climax, this thriller asks: how far will you go when there’s literally no margin for error?
